Our past and present students are facing their

toughest test.

From nurses to paramedics, lab technicians and teachers, many ECU alumni have played an instrumental role in Western Australia’s response to the COVID-19 crisis, and many more will contribute to our recovery. We’ve never been more proud.

Right now, the immediate threat to our healthcare system is reducing daily but the financial impact of the crisis is growing, particularly for our current students. Many of them are facing financial hardship and unique tests that threaten to derail their education.

This cohort of students has an important task ahead of them and we need to do everything we can to ensure they are able to graduate and thrive in a post-pandemic world. The role they will play in the recovery of our economy and the continued strength of our healthcare system shouldn’t be underestimated.

Your donation will help them afford essentials such as food, accommodation and the technology required to continue their studies.  Together, we can provide the support that will result in their success.
Help our students pass this test.

About the fund

Is giving to the Student Hardship Fund tax deductible?

Yes. All donations to the ECU Student Hardship Fund and ECUFoundation over $2 are tax-deductible. You will receive a receipt from ECU for tax purposes.

Is ECU contributing to the Student Relief Fund?

Since March 2020, ECU has already directed in excess of $2million in support to students facing unprecedented hardship.

Funds raised though this campaign will allow ECU to extend support to more students over a longer period as well as demonstrate the wider support of the ECU community.

Is ECU matching every dollar donated to the fund?

ECU will double the impact of your gift by matching dollar for dollar every donation made to the Student Hardship Fund.

How do students qualify and access the Student Hardship Fund?

Students are assessed on a case-by-case basis after submitting an application and talking to a Student Success Officer. This personal contact is essential, as every student is facing different circumstances and may need to access non-financial support services offered by ECU as well.

Are international students eligible?

Yes.  International students are a vital part of the ECU student community and are also facing extraordinary challenges in continuing their studies during COVID-19.

So my donation goes into the Student Hardship Fund, but what do students receive?

They will receive a Student Support Grant.  This grant provides students with a cash payment of up to $2000 to address immediate financial hardship and to provide them with every opportunity to continue with their studies.

How quickly are funds available to students?

ECU’s Student Success team has been working with students in need since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, making critical funds available to those most vulnerable. The systems and processes are already in place to make gifts given to the Student Hardship Fund available to eligible students immediately.

Are there any administration fees or will 100% of my gift benefit students?

100% of donations to the ECU Student Hardship Fund will be directed to students facing hardship. ECU will not charge an administration or any other fee against your gift.
